very functional it suits me but how can you lock it once it is stretched?

Yes it´s functional, but when it´s stretched out it doesn´t lock, it can easily rotate and unlock.

You can’t as the tube cannot really be locked, unless you fully bind it up with tape.

The locking mechanism is by small rotation of the top area ,placing the tooth in the cavity. However, the lock is not reliable for traveling, I would add a thick fiber tape to insure locking.
